ACP133 8 Years On
The Combined Communications-Electronics Board (CCEB) have ratified the latest version of ACP 133, the common directory services and procedures for supporting interoperability between the CCEB Nations. Released on the 19th June 2008, ACP 133 Edition C deprecates the use of Edition B which was published over 8 years ago.
Whilst one of the goals of Edition C was to provide improved LDAP directory support, it fails to address the latest version of the LDAP standards, which were published over two years ago. In fact, Edition C actually appears to define a non-standard and non-backwards compatible LDAP schema.
A formal LDAP specification of the schema has not been provided but rather an extensive number of tables. These tables are not the easiest thing to read and at times contain superfluous and incorrect information. Sadly, even the formal X.500 specifications, that were present in Annex B of Edition B, have been dropped. These formal specifications would go some way to reducing interoperability issues.
In the meantime, I would expect to see a certain amount of additional guidance of how to actually go about implementing Edition C.
