Qinetiq buys Boldon James

Qinetiq, one of the two organisations created from the former Defence Evaluation and Research Agency in 2001,has announced that is has completed that acquisition of Boldon James. It has paid some £20million, with just over £4million of that being conditional on future performance.

ISIS Equity Partners, who supported the management buy out at Boldon James in June 2005, have stated that the sale has provided an internal rate of return of 69.5% - tripling their investment in just over two years.

The move is quite a surpise and it is not clear what, if any, changes this will have on the Boldon James product set. It is likely that there will be some consolidation between Qinetiq's SyBard::Suite and Boldon James' Protective Marking Suite.
Otherwise it is likely to be business as usual, though Qinetiq may be less likely to collaborate with Nexor, a Boldon James competitor, in the future.
