Ethereal Support for Military Messaging
The next version (0.10.13) of the open-source protocol analyzer Ethereal will include support for X.400 messaging, including both P772 and PCT content types from STANAG 4406.
Ethereal allows the message traffic to be captured from the network and then displayed in a structured form.
The screendump below shows the content from the P1 transfer of a military message.

The support for X.400 provides an ideal way to diagnose interoperability problems, for example authentication failures, and examine the complete content of a message without having to rely on product-specific intermediate files or logging.
Until the next version of ethereal is released, you can download the latest sources and compile your own version. Alternatively, you can contact ethereal@smhs.co.uk about obtaining a pre-built distribution for Windows.
