XML Directory Schema

The directory schema defines the attributes and object classes that can be supported within the directory.

There are a wide range of documents that describe elements of the directory schema from a wide range of sources (e.g. ITU, IETF, CCEB). It can be difficult manage the schema so that directory products

A schema was developed to encompass all the elements of X.500 and LDAP directory schema, and provide a schema that would allow editing with even the most basic of XML editors.

The schema includes support for:

The schema enures that all attributes within the schema are uniquely named (by both OID and string) and that all the attributes with an object class are known.

The following page shows a HTML representation of this schema, which has been drawn from a number of sources, using this stylesheet. It provides an LDAP-like format whilst also allowing the navigation between the object-classes, attributes and defining sources.

The same schema can be converted to a standard LDAP representation with a similar stylesheet.
